Sessions 14a,b, and c: found some kobolds!

They find the mines!

Description

The Mines are dug into the side of a mountain along various slopes of the valley. The nearby area seems dark and twisted, as if the sunlight were less bright and the plants and the very land dislike what lies hidden in the ground. There is a wide flat area along one side covered in undergrowth and thickets that also seems to have some shaft sunk into the ground. Scouting reveals the presence of kobolds in this area, so the party concentrates their efforts there.

First Foray

Synopsis

They set up camp a little way back, and discover watch fires don't work when it's raining. They scout the thickets, get muddy and lost, find two "pillboxes" that seem to be entrances for the kobolds, and return late - after their expected return time. The people in camp have lit a signal fire to help them find their way back...so they move camp.

Preparation Details

It's raining the first night; the rain finally breaks the middle of the afternoon.

The party has a big discussion/argument about what to do with Angel. Noer tries to get her to take two watches, but Vanessa realizes and puts her foot down. "I just thought that when you asked for the fourth time if she really wanted to take a watch that you didn't actually want her to." She finally ends up sharing the late night watch.

A warm breakfast makes everything better.

Tilden seems the best at not getting lost in the woods, so they are nominated as direction finder. They do get the party lost, but they also get the party back.

Second Foray

Noer Converts

Noer converts to Sumar-Fareen. Details of the ritual pending.

"Praise Sumar-Fareen! (I can say that now. Sumar-Fareen forever!)"
"You going to get a tattoo?"
"I mean clearly I have a Cleric Tramp Stamp."

Synopsis of the day

After moving camp to a more sheltered spot, they return to the thickets and wander semi-lost. They discover a wicker-covered pit trap, and break it open....and eventually 3 more.

They discover an entrance - guarded by kobolds! They start to sneak away, but Vanessa discovers a trip-wire....the hard way. They rush forward, try to lift the frame/sod lid, and Abel and Oleum get their fingers smashed for their efforts. They trade some blows, including one bad injury for a kobold, and then the kobolds retreat.

The party eventually send Noer and Tilden down into the mines. It's dirty and filthy and there are broken glass bottles and other crap on the ground. Noer discovers a trap! A giant spikey log hanging from the ceiling hits him for lots of ouchies.

The party withdraws. After starting shit on fire. Because PCs.

Other adventures: the camp is attacked

The camp is attacked by a wandering monster! Angel gets stung by a bee. Roger takes care of it.

Third Foray

The camp attracts more wildlife

A giant scorpion stumbles into camp. There's a big fight. Angel nails it. It dies.

Synopsis of the mines foray

They find a second pillbox. There is more fighting. They make their way in and discover a door with a "welcome" mat with some Kobold symbols on it (and a key under it). Roger uses magic to read:

which means Fraternity, Celebration, and Brotherhood
