Mattie stands tall for a woman, and is muscular and heavy. She has thick curly black hair that stands up around her head in a thick halo - but it's usually stuffed under an open-faced steel helmet. Her midnight blue-black skin is relatively clear of marks and she has a healthy glow. She wears a leather eyepatch dyed a bright red.
Mattie is the daughter of one of the High Temple Prostitutes, conceived on the Festival of the Sun. She grew up in the Temple with no real mother and ran rather wild. As a young teen she decided she didn't really want the sexual discipline that came with being a cleric. Later, when she lost her eye after a drunken night quarreling in the midst of an orgy, she was told she might want to consider leaving the church. She declared she would prove herself and despite her injury, she found her discipline in the martial arts and dedicated herself to protecting the priestesses (and priests) of Sumar-Fareen.
